Consistently
high-quality figure performances helped the
Burlington Synchronized Swimming Club's Tier 1
team gain a silver medal at the provincial tier
championships in London recently.
The team was one of six that the BSSC sent to
the Ontario meet.
Only Nepean out-pointed the Tier 1 locals,
who are coached by Liz Simmie.
"It's something which is difficult to achieve
at this level," said Simmie of the figure work
of her team. "One of our swimmers earned (an
impressive) 6.7."
The team includes Sara Fackrell, Courtney
Harnett, Caitlin Menczel, Laura Obdeyn, Sarah
Rich, Emily Rosa and Kiersten Salvatore.
The BSSC Tier 2 team, coached by Kim Davies,
placed seventh in the province, competing in a
tier that had the highest number of participants
in the meet. In the figures category, Paige
Salvatore was fifth among 213 competitors. Other
team members include Olivia Brown, Rebecca-Lee
Cook, Julia Falco, Katelyn Gillis, Taara Halgren,
Brianna Jennings and Sara Wollschlaeger.
Avery Patrick of the Tier 3 team placed 12th
to highlight the team's provincial performance.
They're coached by Charlotte Peer, and swimmers
include Rachel Filice, Brynne Hayhurst-France,
Megan Howarth, Holly McCourt, Naomi Roche, Zoe
Van Natto and Bridget Woudstra.
The goal of the BSSC Tier 4 team was top six
in the province. An excellent figures score of
55.7857 helped the Debbie Laanep-coached team to
fifth overall. Members of the team include
Jillian Carter, Cammy Halgren, Charlotte
O'Grady, Kristin Peck, Kathryn Shiplo, Emma
Simpson and Paula Voigt.
The Jenn Scott-coached Tier 5-6 team also
used excellent figures score to secure fourth
place in the province. Alisha Halgren was third
and Nicole Brideau, fourth, in figures.
Other team members include Kaitlyn Buis,
Alisha Halgren, Sam Huibers, Katie Lawson and
Deanna Sokoloski.
Two BSSC coaches, Charlotte Peer and Kim
Davies, finished second in the masters duet
competition in a field of four pairs.
