Synchro swimmers strike gold

Ali Davies of Newmarket and Jocelyn Bourrie, a Keswick resident, topped seven entries to capture the gold medal in the Tier 5 duets category Sunday and spearhead the performance of Newmarket Synchronized Swim Club members at the provincial tier championships held in Waterloo.

Both athletes were also members of the Tier4/5 combo team which won gold in a pool of five teams and shared silver as the Tier 5 team finished second among 10 teams.

In all, the Newmarket club captured four medals, including a gold by the club's Tier 3 team which scored top marks among 13 teams in its field.
