Durham teams in synch at East Regionals

DURHAM -- Durham Synchro Club's tiers 1, 2 3 and masters teams all supplied top efforts at the 2006 East Regional Championships, held at Ottawa's Carleton University on April 22 and 23.

Durham's Tier 1 team of Kaitlin Bishop, Shannon Blaney, Meagan Caulfield, Katrina Clissold, of Ajax, Lindsay Evelyn, Sarah Masters and Taylor Summers earned the silver medal.

The Tier 2 squad of Carly Byberg, Lindsay Dawson, Francesca DiPietro, of Ajax, Emily Harris, Annie Hodgins, Kayla Hunt, of Pickering, Ashley Kumarsingh, of Ajax, Stephanie Lawson and Ashtyn Nauffts placed sixth.

The Tier 3 team of Alycia Halyk, Hannah Koke, of Pickering, Brooke Manson, of Ajax, Carly McCagherty, Rachel Nickerson, Alexandra Opydo, Amber Steele, Stephanie Geller and Ali Young, of Pickering, took fourth place.

In Tier 1 figures competition, Heather Clarke took first place in a field of 21 competitors. In Tier 2 (12-and-under) figures, Nauffts had a fifth-place finish. In Tier 4 (13-and-under) figures, Geller finished first, while Young placed third (14-and-over).

Geller and Young's first-place finish in Tier 4 duet qualifies the duo to compete at the 2006 Ontario-Quebec Cup on April 29 and 30 at Centennial Pool in Burlington.

In the Tier Masters team event, Durham Synchro's masters team placed second. In solo, Rebecca Jasper placed first, and Joy Simon was close behind with the silver.

In duet competition, the Durham masters also fared extremely well, with Kirsten Mills and Teri Pearce winning gold, Shannon Savage and Vanessa Reeve earning silver, and Joy Simon and Rebecca Jasper finishing fourth.
