The Trillium Awards Program has been a provincial program for many years, ensuring the needs of recreation enthusiasts across the province of Ontario were adequately met in the area of synchronized swimming. The program was developed by a team of experts including both aquatic personnel and synchronized swimming coaches. The Program was formed taking into consideration information from aquatic instructors, the content of water safety programs and, focusing on the fun surrounding the recreational experience and the fun of trying synchro swim! For Trillium Program information, please contact kheald@synchroontario.com |
| Program Design |
As a ten-level graduated skill development program, this thorough, well-balanced synchronized swimming program is offered through partnerships with facilities run by municipalities, clubs, not-for-profit agencies, private programs and camps, and is led by trained, certified staff. In addition to learning fun synchro skills, it supports learn-to-swim programs, brings music to the pool deck and adds creativity to the aquatic environment. As early as level one, participants begin linking their swimming and synchro skills together with music creating fun sequences! As the participants move through the levels, they are challenged with new and more difficult skills and can create longer and more complex sequences or routines |
| Format/Instruction |
The program is designed to fit into a typical learn-to-swim session anywhere from 9 to 12 weeks in length, however, it can be easily adapted to fit into any program design. Participants should be competent deep-end swimmers (or AquaQuest 5). Your current water safety or lifesaving instructors can become certified to teach and evaluate the candidates. NCCP certified Coaches can also instruct and evaluate. |
Red Cross Water Safety Instructors are eligible for the 8-hour Trillium Instructor courses and no synchronized swimming experience is required. This hands-on course is fun and challenging and is taught by dynamic and experienced Course Conductors. In addition to providing training to the candidate, broadening their scope and introducing them to a fun and exciting instructional opportunity, each Trillium Instructor level counts as one credit when re-certifying a Lifesaving Instructor standard. Successful candidates can not only teach the program but can evaluate swimmers and issue awards for the following levels: |
