Russians stealing show at World Championships

OTTAWACanada wrapped up a number of events at the 9th World Junior Championships in Moscow, Russia Saturday with a mixture of results.

The duet and team finals took place as Canada looked to gain ground on its competitors.

Annie Claude Lemay and Eve Lamoureux sat fifth heading into the duet final and finished the competition in ninth with a final routine score of 81.164.

Russia’s Alexandra Eltchinova and Svetlana Romashina maintained first place with a final score of 88.431. The U.S. duet finished second with a score of 85.086, while Japan was third posting a final mark of 84.386.

Heading into the team final Canada had been tied with Italy and while results were close Italy managed to edge the Canadians to hold on to fifth with a score of 83.710. The Canadians posted a final score of 83.172.

The Russians stole first in team as well with a score of 87.596, the Japanese were second with a final score of 84.760 and the Chinese were third with a score of 84.480.

The World Championships wrap up Sunday with the solo and combo finals.
