Erin Mills
synchronized swimmer Amy Levine was part of a
silver medal-winning duet at the 2005
Eastern/Atlantic Divisional Challenge last
weekend in Ottawa.
With their second-place showing in the Tier 7
Junior Duet competition, Levine, 17, and partner
Jennifer Knobbs, members of Etobicoke's Olympium
Synchro Swim Club, qualified for the 2005
Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming
Championships May 12-17 in Calgary.
More than 300 elite synchronized swimmers
from Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces
competed March 31-April 3 in figures, solo, duet
and team competitions at the Ottawa meet.
Earlier this year, Levine, who has been
competing in the sport since she was 9, was
among a dozen swimmers selected to Team Ontario
2005, the new provincial synchro swimming squad
which will compete both nationally and
internationally.
Though the Team Ontario Program was
established to prepare athletes for the 2007
Canada Games in Whitehorse, Yukon, Synchro Swim
Ontario officials say the squad plans to compete
internationally much sooner than that.
