Canadian synchro coach signs four-year deal

OTTAWA (CP) - Isabelle Taillon will coach the Canadian synchronized swimming team for four more years.

Taillon, a native of Deux-Montagnes, Que., signed a contract extension Friday that will have her lead the team through the 2008 Games in Sydney.

Taillon coached the Canadian team at the Athens Olympics this summer where it was sixth in the duet and fifth in the team event. It was the first time since the sport became an Olympic event in 1984 that Canada didn't win at least one medal.

"It's an exciting adventure, especially with the world championships taking place at the beginning of the quadrennial," said Taillon. "I'm extremely pleased to be able to lead this team and continue the progress that we started last fall."

The world championships will be in Montreal July 17-31.

Taillon replaced Biz Price in September 2003.
