Led by a sweep of the top two spots in Tier 4 level duets competition, club members captured five medals at the Ontario provincial synchronized swimming championships in Nepean.
A pair of Newmarket tandems continued their impressive season on the podium by delivering a one-two punch in Tier 4 duets as Ali Davies and Leah McGurn captured gold. Clubmates Jocelyn Bourrie and Laura Towsley claimed second place in a field of 14 teams.
The result was a reversal to the Ontario Winter Games earlier this season in which the Bourrie-Towsley tandem claimed top spot ahead of Davies and McGurn.
McGurn and Towsley also placed third and fourth, respectively, in Tier 4 figures as the Newmarket club finished with six athletes among the top 13 performers. That result left Newmarket as the only club to qualify an entire team for a Synchro Ontario high-performance camp to be held this summer in Guelph in August.
In team competition, the club's first-year Tier 1 competitive squad swept top marks on the cards of all 10 judges to win the gold medal in the 23-team category.
In Tier 4 team competition, Newmarket captured the silver medal in a field of 12 teams. The team captured a bronze medal at the Ontario Winter Games earlier this season.
